Activities of International Organizations in the Field of Gender Equality
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to analyze the activities of international organizations on gender equality. To achieve this, the following tasks need to be addressed: 1) track the achievements of international organizations in the direction of gender equality chronologically; 2) identify the activities of existing international organizations in this field; 3) to classify the developed and adopted international legal standards and the relevant international legal acts; 4) to find out the role of Ukraine in the law-making and legal activities of international organizations. The methodological basis of the study is a number of approaches and methods of scientific knowledge. These are, in particular, comparative-legal and systemic, historical and formal-legal, structural-functional and other methods. Scientific novelty. The systematic analysis of the organization of the activities of existing international organizations demonstrates the greatest contribution and importance to the gender equality of the UN and its structures, NATO, OSCE, the Council of Europe. They have developed a significant number of internationally binding and advisory instruments, which form the legal basis of parity democracy at the universal and regional levels, the development of mechanisms for guaranteeing and exercising equal rights and opportunities for women and men. Conclusions. International legal standards developed and adopted by modern states within the UN framework to combat gender discrimination, violence, gender inequality, and to ensure greater involvement of women and girls in various spheres of life. The main activities of existing international organizations on gender equality are: 1) development and adoption of international legal acts, 2) creation of institutional framework; 3) implementation of international projects, programs, holding international conferences and meetings at different levels; 4) coordination and cooperation of international organizations, in particular in the security and defense sector; 5) monitoring and awareness-raising activities; 6) promoting the implementation of gender equality standards at the national level, implementation of them into national legislation.
