Abstract
The article highlights the impact of extremism on the development of human society and state. The authors stress that in the XXI century there is an increasing number of intergroup conflicts in the world. Stepping on the path of open confrontation, the parties of the conflict allow or encourage the use of violence of their opponents, seeking to complete their physical or spiritual annihilation. Therefore ideologies that justify violence are being formed in the society. Extremist methods and ways are promoted as the most effective solutions for social conflict. Combined with social and economic problems as well as political instability, spreading of extremist ideologies and practices can essentially affect the rights and freedoms of men and citizens, suspending the development of society and state. The article emphasizes that extremism threatens not only to particular social groups, but under favorable internal and external conditions it is able to destroy the state and/or national spirit, transform existing social relations into chaos, in which rightfulness is determined solely by the level of force (physical, psychological) that may be applied to the opponents. The authors of the study concluded that in current conditions extremism is a real threat to national security. This phenomenon must be tackled comprehensively, with all the problems that exist in society and in international relations. The state must maintain steady contacts with international organizations and international partners to exchange relevant information and experience. However, the state cannot rely exclusively on external assistance in the solution of internal problems. In author’s opinion, to prevent the emergence and spread of extremism, public authorities should focus on ensuring adequate living standards, to effectively address social, economic and political issues, along with intergroup conflicts. It is necessary to create an effective system of governance, ensure fair justice, reduce corruption and crime, establish continuous dialogue with civil society and engage its representatives in the process of decision-making.Downloads
